چکیده
The data science of networks is a rapidly developing field with myriad applications. In neuroscience, the brain commonly modeled as connectome, network nodes connected by edges. While there have been thousands papers on connectomics, statistics remains limited and poorly understood. Here, we provide an overview from perspective statistical kinds models, assumptions, problems, applications that are theoretically empirically justified for analysis connectome data. We hope this review spurs further development application statistically grounded methods in connectomics.

Fast Inexact Graph Matching with Applications in Statistical Connectomics
It is becoming increasingly popular to represent myriad and diverse data sets as graphs. When the labels of vertices of these graphs are unavailable, graph matching (GM)—the process of determining which permutation assigns vertices of one graph to those of another—is a computationally daunting problem. This work presents an inexact strategy for GM. Specifically, we frame GM as a quadratic assig...

The use of electron microscopy (EM) to describe the detailed synaptic connectivity in the retina has a rich history. Recent technological advances in serial electron microscopy (EM) have placed a complete description of the synaptic connectivity of the mammalian retina within reach. These new tools have recently been used to densely reconstruct the largest piece of a mammalian retina to date. C...
متن کاملHuman connectomics.
Recent advances in non-invasive neuroimaging have enabled the measurement of connections between distant regions in the living human brain, thus opening up a new field of research: Human connectomics. Different imaging modalities allow the mapping of structural connections (axonal fibre tracts) as well as functional connections (correlations in time series), and individual variations in these c...
متن کاملComparative Connectomics.
We introduce comparative connectomics, the quantitative study of cross-species commonalities and variations in brain network topology that aims to discover general principles of network architecture of nervous systems and the identification of species-specific features of brain connectivity. By comparing connectomes derived from simple to more advanced species, we identify two conserved themes ...
متن کاملVisualization in Connectomics
Connectomics is a field of neuroscience that analyzes neuronal connections. A connectome is a complete map of a neuronal system, comprising all neuronal connections between its structures. The term ‘connectome’ is close to the word ‘genome’ and implies completeness of all neuronal connections, in the same way as a genome is a complete listing of all nucleotide sequences. The goal of connectomic...
